J.W.
Walker School participates in Safe Crossing Day
Safe Kids Canada and CN launched the Safe Crossing Program
to raise awareness of safety at railway crossings. Constable Peter LeDrew of the
CN Police was joined by OPP officers to promote this important message to SK to
Grade 3 students at J.W. Walker School on October 27, 2005.
The officers spoke to students about safely crossing railway tracks. The group,
including teachers and parent chaperones, then walked to the railway crossing
location on McIrvine Road to practice the method of safe crossing. The message
was reinforced when students stood safely back as a train, arranged by CN, arrived
on the tracks. At the end of the session, students were given a tip sheet for
parents on how to teach their kids about safety around railway tracks.
Fort Frances is one of only ten communities across the country that was chosen
to participate in the Safe Crossing Program.
