Sunset Country Regional Science Fair
to be Held in Fort Frances

The 2005 Sunset Country Regional Science Fair will be held at the Fort Frances High School on April 8th and 9th. The fair will feature the best science projects of junior and intermediate students from across Northwestern Ontario. Approximately 120 students from grades 4 to 8, representing area boards will be displaying projects in Life Science, Physical Science, Computer Science and Technology.

Participating schools from this region include:
Atikokan High School, Crossroads School, Ear Falls Public School, Keewatin Public School, Madsen Public School, McCrosson-Tovell School, New Prospect School, Our Lady of the Valley School, Our Lady of the Way School, Riverview School - Rainy River, Riverview School - Dryden, Sacred Heart School, St. John’s School, St. Francis School, St. Thomas Aquinas, ste. Marguerite Bourgeoys School, Sturgeon Creek School, Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program.

Some of the very prestigious awards to be made are the Sci-Tech Ontario Stepping Stone Award Certificate; the Pfizer Canada Award of Excellence Certificates, Award of Excellence Medal, Award of Excellence Plaque; the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories Award Certificates; and the University of Ottawa Scholarship Certificate.

In addition to awards and prizes at the Regional Fair, four students from the intermediate division will have the opportunity to compete at the National Fair to be held in May in Vancouver. These students will be able to experience a once in a lifetime educational experience, all expenses paid because of the financial support of private sector partners in our area who assist in underwriting the cost of hosting the Regional Fair, and through the funding of Curriculum Council West (Rainy River District School Board, Keewatin-Patricia School Board, and Northwest Catholic District School Board, Kenora Catholic District School Board)

The Fair will be open to the public for set up from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8th, and from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th. The awards presentation will be held at 3:00 p.m.
