Rainy River District School Board approved the initiation of an attendance zone review for Fort Frances High School Grade 7-8 Program at a special board meeting on February 19, 2019, with a proposed recommendation to extend this boundary for Grade 7 and 8 students at Robert Moore School.
Fort Frances High School was configured as a Grade 7-12 facility in the fall of 2017, with the addition of the Grade 7 and 8 students from J. W. Walker School to address the accommodation pressure. At that time, an attendance zone review for the Robert Moore School Grade 7 and 8 Program was also proposed, but due to other focuses, was postponed.
With this recommendation, there are many opportunities for students and staff including:
- Opportunities for Reach Ahead Credits, whereby identified youth can "reach ahead" to take Grade 9 credits in their Grade 8 year;
- Access to specialized programming, such as the Hockey Academy;
- Access to extra-curricular programming, such as the FFHS Fall Play; and
- Greater flexibility in scheduling and staffing, especially specialized subjects such as Ojibwe and French Language programming.
Moving forward with the attendance zone review, a School Attendance Zone Review Committee will be established. As per policy, there will be a minimum of one community consultation held, which will take place April 9, 2019.
