0.4 FTE – Assistive Technology Special Education Resource Teacher
September 2, 2008 – June 25, 2009
(2 days per week)

Working with the Special Education Coordinator and under the supervision of the Superintendent of Education, the Assistive Technology Special Education Resources Teacher will provide support in training students and staff, program development, and liaising effectively with the Information Technology Department to promote a consistently high standard of service for exceptional students.

Qualifications preferred:
• A minimum of Special Education Part 1;
• Experience in the field of assistive technology and expertise with various software such as Kurzweil,
Word Q, Speak Q, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Readplease, Co-Writer and other specialty programs;
• Ability to collaborate and work as a member of a team, as well as to work independently;
• Excellent technical skills;
• Sound Organizational skills;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Willingness to travel regularly throughout the system.

The appointment is a one year term, which may be extended, by mutual consent. Budget constraints may cause the reduction of this position in any given year.

Qualifications Required:
• Knowledge of both elementary and secondary education
• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in staff development
• Willingness to travel within School Board
• Familiarity with Ministry Regulations and Board policies and procedures pertaining to Special
Education Services, Individual Education Plans and Identification Placement and Review
Committee process
• Excellent communication, administrative, technological, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage resources
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Ability to seek and maintain valued partnerships and liaise effectively with community and
provincial organizations so as to enhance student outcomes
• Experience with web-based programs (i.e. Trillium and the IEPWriter)
• Experience with the High Needs Amount diagnostic assessment model for exceptionalities,
referral processes and funding levels is recommended
• Specialist qualifications in Special Education

Qualifications Required:
Grade 12 education is required along with experience in a networked microcomputer environment, proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and operating email applications.
