On July 8, 2020, the Rainy River District School Board reached a tentative agreement at the local level with the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) Rainy River Teacher Local (permanent teachers).

“I am very pleased with the process and progress in this round of local bargaining with the ETFO Permanent Teachers. The Board thanks the negotiating teams on both sides of the table for fully participating in very collaborative and respectful bargaining sessions in the unique virtual format,” said Raymond Roy, Board Chair.

“We are pleased to have reached a local tentative agreement with the RRDSB.  Negotiating virtually had its challenges but we were all committed to reaching an agreement.  It was a respectful and collaborative environment.  We are looking forward to working with the Board to implement the agreement and continue to support the teachers in working with students,” said Local ETFO president, Monica Armour.

Details of the agreement will remain confidential until the agreement is ratified by members of the federation by September 9, 2020.

The new agreements will be in effect from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2022, aligning with the provincial settlements at the central bargaining table. The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association announced a ratified central agreement on April 28, 2020.

The collective bargaining framework for the education sector features a two‐tier bargaining process, or central and local bargaining as it is often referred to. This means issues such as salary, benefits, and paid leaves are negotiated on a province‐wide basis at a central table. All other issues are then negotiated locally.
