On June 19, the Ministry of Education released three possible models for reopening schools for the 2020-2021 year. In order to help families prepare for the upcoming year, we wanted to share information about each of the models so families know what options are being considered (see attached graphics). The Ministry of Education has indicated they will let school boards know which of the three models we will be following during the first week of August. Once that decision has been made, we will communicate with families which of the models we will be using for the start of the school year. Here is some additional information about returning to school for the 2020-2021 year.
- Parents/guardians will be able to choose whether they will send their child to school or not in the fall should models 1 or 2 be chosen by the Ministry of Education. For students who will not be physically returning to our schools, we will continue to offer distance learning opportunities (see Model 3 graphic for more information)
- Information in the graphics for the three models is subject to change as information is released and the impact of the COVID-19 virus evolves.
- Depending on public health recommendations and spread of the virus, families should be aware that next school year could ultimately see a combination of the three models. Our schools will be flexible and adjust to any changes in the delivery of education as needed.
- The Rainy River District School Board is working with other area school boards to ensure consistency for families for the 2020-2021 school year as much as possible.
As per direction from the Ministry of Education, once the model for schools is announced and detailed information is shared, families should be aware that there will be a deadline (date to be announced in early August) to let us know if you plan to send their children to school. Families who do not respond by that date may not be able to start school on the first day, but would be able to start at a later date as determined by their school.
