Elementary Educators

Topic: Brain Compatible Learning in a Mathematics Classroom (Elementary Teachers and Educational Support Staff) 
Length: ½ day (AM)

Description: In this workshop, Liesl offers groundbreaking insights into how the brain learns, giving teachers across all subjects and grade levels, the tools they need to enhance student outcomes. With a focus on brain-compatible learning, this session covers essential strategies to: 

  • Boost student motivation by tapping into natural brain systems
  • Improve attention and retention of information
  • Address behavior challenges through an understanding of emotions and learning
  • Reduce unconscious biases that impact teaching and learning
    Strengthen memory formation and retrieval techniques
  • Highlight the critical role of physical activity in learning

Educators will leave this workshop inspired, informed, and ready to immediately implement brain-based strategies to transform classrooms. Liesl breaks down complex neuroscience into easy-to-understand concepts, ensuring that every educator is equipped to engage and motivate students.


Topic: School Improvement Sessions (Elementary Educators and Educational Support Staff)

Description: Each school will concentrate on its Student Achievement Plan to enhance literacy supports for students. This will include the analysis of Acadience assessment data that will inform next steps and strategies for improving reading outcomes for all students in elementary classrooms.

Topic: French Language Professional Learning Community Meeting  
Length: ½ day (AM)
Entity Hosting: RRDSB
Presenters: All FSL Teachers

Description: Discussing ways to create balanced literacy in the FSL classroom. The focus will be on supporting teachers with effective teaching practices to support French language learning for students. Discussion will also support the use of Board purchased resources (eg. DELF A1) to enhance programming.

Secondary Educators

Topic: School Improvement Sessions (Secondary Educators and Educational Support Staff) 
Length: Full Day
Entity Hosting: RRDSB
Presenters: School Administration

Description: Each school will concentrate on its unique Student Achievement Plan to enhance student success and well-being. This will include emphasizing high-impact instructional practices in mathematics, analyzing literacy assessment data to inform next steps and strategies for improving literacy outcomes, and engaging in discussions centered on each school's strategies for boosting student engagement, career exploration within content courses, and attendance.
