Chromebook Troubleshooting

Connecting to Wi-Fi

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Not Connected. Note: If you see your Wi-Fi network name and a signal strength, your Chromebook is already connected to Wi-Fi.
  3. Turn on Wi-Fi. 
  4. Your Chromebook will automatically look for available networks and show them to you in a list.
  5. Select the secure Wi-Fi network.
  6. Type the network password.
  7. Select Connect.

Chromebook Won't Turn on

  1. Is the power adapter plugged in?

Chromebook Won't boot to Login Screen

  1. Restart the Chromebook by pressing the power button until the screen is completely black. Turn on again with the power button. 

Why can’t I sign into my Chromebook, or go anywhere on the internet?

  1. For Chromebooks to function properly, they must be connected to a WiFi Network.

My screen is sideways!

  1. The user could have used keyboard shortcuts to change the rotation of the screen
  2. On the keyboard, hold down ctrl + shift + circular arrow
  3. Repeat the above until the screen is back to the proper direction
    *The circular arrow is on the top row of the keyboard, just above the #4 key

My screen colours are strange!

  1. An accessibility feature called “Use High Contrast Mode” is most likely turned on
  2. Press Alt + Shift + s
  3. Select Settings
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the settings window, select Advanced
  5. From the Accessibility section, select Manage accessibility features
  6. From the Display section, turn Use high contrast mode OFF

My screen is split in two and the cursor is very large!

  1. An accessibility feature called “Enable docked magnifier” is turned on
  2. Press Alt + Shift + s
  3. Select Settings
  4. From the bottom window
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the settings window, select Advanced
  6. From the Accessibility section, select Manage accessibility features
  7. From the Display section, turn Enable docked magnifier OFF

My screen is magnified or really, really, small!

  1. The user could have used keyboard shortcuts to zoom the screen. Try the following key combinations to adjust the magnification or zoom.
  2. Press ctrl + plus key [zooms the screen in]
  3. Press ctrl + minus key [zooms the screen out]
  4. To reset zoom, back to normal settings:
  5. Press ctrl + 0
    *0 is zero key
