Project Update: July 8th, 2019

Since our last Building Committee meeting, we have been diligently working on the design of the new school. During the last week of May, the Team was on-site conducting user group sessions with various teachers and support staff to gather input on the finer details of the project.    

Critchley Hill has submitted in June the 85% drawings to the Cost Estimator to serve as our Class A Estimate.  We expect the results of this estimate in early July.  We will then apply to the Ministry for an Approval to Proceed, a required step before tendering, based on the results of that estimate. 

Since our last meeting, there has not been any significant design changes due to budget constraints.  What was viewed at the last meeting is what we continue to go forward with.  Therefore, a Building Committee meeting is not needed in June.  

After the summer, we will look to communicate progress to date as well as any other relevant information to you and to stakeholders.  Once our Approval to Proceed has been received, we will look to create our construction schedule and the associated phasing plan.  

Looking Forward

  • Once the 85% complete documents estimate has been completed, we will do a final budget check.
  • An approval to proceed will be submitted to the Ministry of Education.
  • Once approval is received, the project will go to tender for General Contractors to bid on.
  • If tender results are on budget the project will be submitted for approval to the Board.
  • Once approved construction to progress over the next year with selective demotion and construction. All phasing aspects to be finalized.
