At its May 19, 2016 Special Board Meeting, the Rainy River District School Board approved the award of a tender to Playgrounds R Us to enhance playgrounds at schools of the Board across the District.

As the School Board will not be able to provide a safe learning environment for students due to the strike actions of high school teachers on Friday, May 27, 2016, all instructional programs for Grades 9 to 12 will be cancelled, and all Rainy River District School Board high schools will be closed to students, with the exception of programming for Grades 7 and 8 students at Atikokan High School.

The Rainy River District School Board is pleased to congratulate Fort Frances High School student, Mira Donaldson, who was appointed to the 2016-17 Minister's Student Advisory Council. As one of 60 students, selected from a total of 450 applicants across the province, Mira will serve in an advisory capacity to the Minister of Education on topics relating to the public education system.

Fort Frances High School (FFHS) student Naomi McManaman’s passport will be well on its way to being filled by the end of the year. Not long after the Grade 11 student travels with classmates to Italy this month, she’ll head to India for a humanitarian trip thanks to a Scholarship from the Rainy River District School Board.

Construction at Donald Young School has commenced with Finn Way Construction of Thunder Bay moving in machinery and erecting fencing around the worksite. The main entry to the school will be moved to the far south end closest to the curling rink.

Fort High students will be “Hooping It Up” this Tuesday (May 17) at 11:30 a.m. to help students with special needs while raising money and awareness for their “Best Buddies” club.
