RAINY RIVER DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD HONOURS GIZHEWAADIZIWIN HEALTH ACCESS CENTRE AS COMMUNITY PARTNER OF THE YEAR

Rainy River District, ON — June 2, 2026 — The Rainy River District School Board (RRDSB) is proud to recognize several employees of Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access as the recipient of its Community Partner of the Year Award, celebrating their exceptional contributions to student well-being and nutrition programming across the District.

This award highlights the vital role that community partnerships play in supporting student success. Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access team of Health Educators and FASD Child Nutrition Worker have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to RRDSB students through their leadership, generosity, and hands-on involvement in key nutrition initiatives.

A cornerstone of their impact has been their support of the Nutrition on Weekends program, which helps ensure students have access to healthy food outside of school hours. Their contributions have included financial donations, in-kind resources, and countless hours spent packing and distributing food to communities throughout the district. These efforts have directly supported student health, well-being, and readiness to learn.

In addition to this work, Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access staff have played a meaningful role in the You’re the Chef program, bringing practical skills and enthusiasm into classrooms. By working directly with students, they have helped build confidence, foster independence, and promote lifelong healthy habits through hands-on cooking experiences.

Beyond their direct service, the team has been an invaluable partner in shaping the evolution of RRDSB’s nutrition programming. Through collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and a deep understanding of community needs, they have helped strengthen and sustain programming that supports students and families across the region.

“The partnership with Gizhewaadiziwin Health Access is an outstanding example of what can be achieved when organizations come together in support of student success,” said Heather Campbell, RRDSB CEO. “Their dedication and care have made a lasting impact in our schools and communities.”
