Employee Recognition:
Congratulations to Lana Puumala  on her 25 Years of Service to the Board. And to Dawn Masson on her upcoming retirement.

A special thanks from NLS Principal Carly Skrenski:

Since starting at Atikokan High School in 2000, Lana has shown a deep passion for Nordic skiing and has been a strong supporter of the Outers program, coaching skiers and taking part in various Outers adventures. She has also played a crucial role in the languages and Social Sciences department for many years. We are delighted to honor her 25 years of service to both the Board and the school in Atikokan.

Dawn has been an amazing support over the past two years as Acting Vice-Principal at Northern Lakes School. She has dedicated her entire teaching career to one school board and one school. Beginning in 1997 as a secondary OT, she has taught a wide variety of courses throughout the years. Her deep understanding of the secondary education system has been essential, especially with the transition to a K to 12 school in Fall 2023. Dawn's wonderful sense of humour, high standards, and encouragement for others to excel will be greatly missed next year. We wish her all the best as she starts her new adventure into retirement.

Recognition of Excellence:
Northern Lakes School – Grade 4 & 11/12 Collaborative French Project
Principal Carly Skrenski discussed the special circumstances surrounding Northern Lakes' French classes, where junior and intermediate levels engaged in virtual French instruction. Senior teacher Sylvie Cyr collaborated with virtual educator Lynn McClain to craft a hands-on learning experience that replicated a French restaurant outing for fourth-grade students. This program met various educational standards for both fourth and senior students. The lively and interactive unit provided fourth graders with practical French language practice, while senior students developed their project management abilities.
