The name of the new consolidated K-12 school in Atikokan will be named Northern Lakes K-12 School. The name received unanimous approval by Trustees at the regular Board meeting on June 7, 2022. The other option up for consideration was Atikokan K-12 School.
The school colours will remain the same and a mascot will be determined at the school level.
The Atikokan K-12 School Naming Committee was established to provide a short list of potential names for the school. As part of the process, the Committee considered the unique history, geography, and demographics of the community, as well as sought community, student and staff input and feedback.
Despite a brief work stoppage due to the provide-wide carpenters' union strike, which has since been resolved, work on the $26 million project remains on schedule.
