RAINY RIVER DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD WELCOMES CHARLOTTE THOMPSON AS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES MANAGER
FORT FRANCES, ON - The Rainy River District School Board (RRDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Charlotte Thompson as the Board's new Mental Health Services Manager. Ms. Thompson brings more than 25 years of experience in social work, mental health services, and educational leadership. A compassionate and collaborative leader, she is dedicated to fostering high-performing clinical teams and ensuring student voice, well-being, and mental health remain at the forefront of her work.
Most recently, Ms. Thompson served as Assistant Coordinator of Social Work and Attendance Services with the York Region District School Board. In this role, she provided leadership and supervision to social work and attendance staff, supported complex case consultations, led crisis and tragic event responses, advanced suicide intervention initiatives, and strengthened student attendance and well-being supports. She also played a key role in mentoring staff, developing professional learning opportunities, supporting system-wide mental health strategies, and building strong partnerships with schools, families, and community agencies.
An experienced child, adolescent, and family clinician, Ms. Thompson has extensive expertise in supporting students with a wide range of mental health, social-emotional, and behavioural needs. Throughout her career, she has worked directly with children, youth, and families using evidence-based approaches to build resilience, promote emotional well-being, and improve outcomes. Her professional expertise includes crisis intervention, suicide prevention and risk assessment, trauma-informed practice, family engagement, and collaborative case management. She has consistently worked alongside educators, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, responsive, and student-centred care.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Thompson has earned a reputation for creating safe, inclusive, and identity-affirming environments where students feel valued, heard, and supported. Her commitment to anti-oppressive practice, combined with her ability to build meaningful relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners, has contributed to improved well-being and student success in diverse educational settings.

As Mental Health Services Manager, Ms. Thompson will lead the implementation of the Board's mental health strategy, oversee the delivery of mental health services, collaborate with schools and community partners, and advance initiatives that promote positive mental health outcomes and student success across the district.
