Rainy River District

Rainy River District School Board has been allocated $2,068,000 for facility upgrades through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream (CVRIS) to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The Board applied for a multitude of different projects under this funding stream with the following projects being approved:

• Fort Frances High School – Window Replacement ($300,000)

• Fort Frances High School – ERV Ventilation Upgrades ($800,000)

• Crossroads School – ERV Ventilation Upgrades ($300,000)

• McCrosson-Tovell School – ERV Ventilation Upgrades ($250,000)

• Nestor Falls School – ERV Ventilation Upgrades ($100,000)

• Sturgeon Creek School – ERV Ventilation Upgrades ($300,000)

• Fort Frances High School (Intermediate) – Bottle Filling Stations ($3,000)

• Education Centre – Bottle Filling Stations ($3,000)

• Mine Centre School – Bottle Filling Stations ($3,000)

• Sturgeon Creek School – Bottle Filling Stations ($3,000)

• McCrosson-Tovell School – Bottle Filling Stations ($6,000)

The Request for Proposal (RFP) for the window replacement project at Fort Frances High School was issued March 4 and closes this week, while the process for the ventilation upgrades is currently underway, with draft drawings expected by the end of the month. The bottle filling stations have been ordered and will be installed by maintenance staff this summer. All projects are expected to be completed by December 31st, 2021.

“We are appreciative of this support by the provincial and federal governments, which includes Energy Ventilation Recovery upgrades in many of our schools,” said Heather Campbell, Director of Education. “This targeted funding assists the Rainy River District School Board in improving the health and safety of our facilities and in reducing our environmental impact, thus ensuring healthier, more efficient schools for our students, our staff, and our school communities.”

The CVRIS, announced in August 2020, was introduced to address the current pandemic. A total of $656.5 million is being allocated as part of a new joint Canada/Ontario funding agreement.
