RRDSB awards construction contract for Atikokan K-12 School

At its November 3, 2020 regular Board meeting, the Rainy River District School Board awarded the construction contract for the Atikokan K-12 School, Childcare and EarlyON Child and Family Centre to Finn Way General Contractor Inc. in the amount of $26,124,170 + HST. With this approval complete, the Board can move forward with the construction and renovation of Atikokan High School to transform into a K-12 school, consolidating North Star Community School and Atikokan High School. The facility will also house a 49 space childcare facility and an EarlyON Child and Family Centre.
This project is expected to take at least two years and will be completed with a multi-phase construction schedule so that the school can continue to operate while construction is underway. Staff and students at Atikokan High School will utilize a smaller area of the school for programming during construction, with the health and safety of our staff and students being paramount. While we realize the inconvenience this will cause, the end result will be a fresh, modern facility with many upgrades and improvements.
