Prior to its September 3, 2019 regular Board meeting, trustees and administration of the Rainy River District School Board met in-camera to receive a report on the tender for the Rainy River Consolidated School project. The project, which received Approval to Proceed (ATP) from the Ministry of Education on June 7, 2019, would include a complete interior and exterior renovation of the existing Rainy River High School, with the addition of a large gym, two child care rooms and an EarlyON centre.
Six contractors were prequalified to bid with three submitting bids. The tender came in significantly over budget and it was decided the tender would be cancelled, with the Board directing administration to apply for Capital Priorities funding for a new K-12 consolidated school in Rainy River. The Board will also reapply for additional funding for the renovation as a second option.
“We are committed to moving forward with a consolidated school for the students, staff and communities of Rainy River and the surrounding area and are moving forward to pursue further funding for the project,” said Raymond Roy, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
