Cafeteria open

Fort Frances High School (FFHS) administration is pleased that students there are once again able to purchase healthy lunches from the cafeteria, which is now operating as The Caf Co. – a not-for-profit enterprise headed by NCDS. The Caf Co. opened Friday with a soft launch, offering a menu of fruit smoothies, chicken caesar wraps, meat and cheese snack bowls, yogurt parfaits, and more.

“We had a really great start – lots of students came to check it out and we had plenty of positive feedback, as well,” said NCDS executive director Nicke Paddock. “We just really want to provide students with delicious food that is homemade and nutritious and we hope the students support it so we can continue to serve them well into the future. “

The full menu, which will include daily specials, is still being confirmed, but students can expect a variety of soups, wraps, and several grab-and-go options. Starting today, The Café Co. is open from 10:00 a.m. until the end of the school day. Students can pay with cash, debit, and Apple Pay.

“We’re very happy we were able to come up with a viable option to provide fresh, healthy food within the school once again. It’s a huge benefit to our school community,” said FFHS Principal Jennifer Leishman.

NCDS received start up funding for The Caf Co. from the Social Enterprise Grant through the PARO Centre for Women's Enterprise and saw it as an opportunity to create a work training program. In fact, The Caf Co. will be looking for interested students to help out in the cafeteria to gain experience in the food industry and earn cafeteria credit.
