Mine Centre School Board Meeting Highlights – April 2, 2024

New Board Trustee Sworn In
Lori Ann Shortreed has been appointed as a Trustee by the Rainy River District School Board for Fort Frances and the unorganized areas east of Fort Frances. Her term will run from April 2, 2024, to November 14, 2026.

Recognition Of Excellence 
Barbe Dennis, Principal of Mine Centre School, shared insights about the school's Family Literacy Day, an event that was held on  February 29th and which was aimed at fostering a sense of community within the school and enhancing connections with parents and families. Welcoming family members to the school provided students with an opportunity to shine and enjoy a fun filled and relaxed environment.

System-Program/Curriculum Success
Mike Parkhill from SayItFirst Inc. discussed the Anishinaabemodaa project, which seeks to lower suicide rates by educating indigenous youth their language. He also shared the challenges and progress of the First Nation language program and the impact it has had on the community.
