At the June 24th Special Meeting of the Board, the Rainy River District School Board of Trustees approved the Preliminary Budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025, totaling $63,732,971.10.
The budget process begins in January each year with the development of school enrolment projections, which form the basis of the budget. Throughout the year, programs are assessed, and planning for the following year occurs, to align with the priorities of a Culture of Caring and a Culture of Lifelong Learning as outlined in the Board’s Strategic Plan such as:
- Continued support for mental health professional services in all schools.
- Increased support for Autism Support Workers and the continuation of Behavioral Therapists for our elementary schools.
- A focus on building capacity in math and literacy instruction and interventions, with staffing allocations for support at our elementary schools. Working with our STEM Coordinator and Literacy Lead, schools will work to build educator capacity and to champion best practices for intervention and instructional strategies.
- Continued funding for a FNMI Grad Coach position at Rainy River High School and the continuation of the Fort France High School FNMI Grad Coach position to engage students and embed culturally relevant and responsive programming in our schools.
- A TechWays Coordinator, to provide programming to students in Grades 7 and 8 that focuses on career/pathway planning support, along with opportunities for increased hands-on/experiential learning and an emphasis on the skilled trades.
Feedback on the 2024-2025 budget was collected through requests for input from School Councils, Union partners, and Board Advisory Committees. Parents/guardians, staff, and students were invited to share their feedback by responding to specific questions in a Thought Exchange platform, with a total of 405 participants, over 200 generated thoughts and close to 8,000 ratings.
