Fundamental to our students’ success is that they feel cared for, have a sense of belonging, and are safe. The Rainy River District School Board values all students, employees, and families, regardless of age, ancestry, colour, race, citizenship, ethnic origin, place of origin, creed, ability, family status, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, socioeconomic status, employment, sex, and sexual orientation.

Each day, we all work to demonstrate our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusivity by naming and addressing homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and all forms of hate and systems of oppression.

This June, our schools demonstrated this commitment and support for 2SLGBTQIA+ staff, students and their families by celebrating the joy of identity and of 2SLGBTQIA+ histories, contributions and excellence.

In light of the tragic events at the University of Waterloo this week and in solidarity with the University of Waterloo and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, the Rainy River District School Board will continue to fly the Progressive Pride Flag at its schools for an additional week, until the end of day on July 7th, to reinforce that all learning institutions are safe spaces for all.

We are saddened by this act of hate; our thoughts go to the victims of this homophobic and transphobic attack, and to the entire 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
